The router manual
A detailed description of the configuration can be found in the manual of the router: http://www.bintec-elmeg.com/downloads/router/rt-serie/
The DIME manager - find and configure the router
For finding and configuring you need the Bintec DIME-Manager. Please download and install the software from this page:
https://www.bintec-elmeg.com/downloads/software/dime-manager/
We will come back to it in the further course.
Configuration of the TCUB4 for directfax
After unpacking
The delivery state of the TCUB4 should be like this:
IP address: 192.168.0.254
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Username: admin
Password: admin (for some device versions it is "funkwerk")Firmware version: V.7.10 Rev 5 Patch 2 or higher
Reset: Restart or reset to factory settings
If the device is not accessible, a reset to the factory settings is recommended:
The reset button performs two different functions depending on how long it is pressed:
- Once press briefly: the device performs a restart
- Press and hold until STATUS LED starts flashing: the device performs a factory reset. This means that the device is reset to its factory default state. The boot configuration is deleted and all passwords are reset.
Commissioning:
Connect the router to the Ethernet LAN using the cable provided (ETH1).
Plug the ISDN cable into BRI1.
To avoid damage to the ROUTER, make sure that the two connections are not reversed!
Connect the power cable.
Do not turn on the router until all connections have been made. The router performs an autoconfiguration at startup, during which the existing connections are detected and saved. The type of ISDN connection (system connection / multi-device connection) is also detected.
The configuration is done via a PC in the local network. For this purpose start the zuvor heruntergeladenen und installierten DIME Manager.
the menu item Show devices displays all Bintec routers in the network.
Double click on the newly added router (usually the one with IP= 192.168.0.254). In the following form you make the necessary settings.
Further configuration settings are only required after a manual reset to the delivery state or to check/update the software version. They are made with the Funkwerk Configuration Interface. To do this, enter the IP address of your TCUB4 in a supported browser (Internet Explorer 6 or higher, Mozilla Firefox 1.2 or higher).
Logging in to the router
Now you have to log in with username and password (PW see above on page 1):
Check / update software version
To check/update the software version, proceed as follows:
- Go to the menu Maintenance → Software & Configuration.
- Select Update system software under Action and Current software from Funkwerk server under Source
- Confirm with LOS
The update will now be performed automatically if necessary and you will be prompted to restart the device. An open Internet connection is required.
Manual update
Attention: If this automatic does not work, e.g. because the address of the site has been changed in the meantime, proceed as follows:
open the browser and go to the bintec website with the following link: https://www.bintec-elmeg.com/downloads/router/rt-serie/
The "Downloads bintec RT series" page is displayed with a list of possible updates. The list is sorted in descending order, i.e. the latest update is at the top. Click on the first entry of the type "Release" (e.g. Release 9.1.Rev. 2 Patch 4). You will then be taken to the details of this firmware update. The documents give instructions on how to perform the update. Please follow these instructions. The software for the update is offered here as ".rna" file for download.
Configuration
Assign IP address
In the following menu, the final IP addresses can now be set in the LAN menu item.
Note: If the Bintec Router and the IBM i not in the same network segment are located, an entry for the destination IP address with the gateway to be used must be entered under menu item Network/Routes. Details on this topic can be found in the Bintec manual chapter 14 Network.
Assign an MSN
It is absolutely necessary that you assign an MSN to your router. To do this, select Physical interfaces/ISDN ports/MSN configuration in the menu bar.
Enter a valid or a "dummy" MSN under MSN. The MSN must be entered even if no faxes are to be received with the TCUB4.
This entry is absolutely necessary so that the ROUTER creates the necessary CAPI messages. Which MSN the device actually responds to when receiving faxes is part of the fax configuration on the IBM i.
Special features when specifying a correct MSN
If it is absolutely necessary to enter the correct MSN (e.g. 108 depending on the telephone system), then this entry has the consequence that every call on 108 should be used for a WAN connection. directfax will then not receive this call. Therefore in such cases not PPP (routing) has to be selected but "CAPI 1.1 EAZ 0 Mapping". This causes the router to report the call to CAPI and thus to directfax. As mentioned before, this is only valid in cases where the PBX requires you to specify the correct MSN. In most cases you can work with a "dummy" MSN.
Change system password
After the router has been configured and faxing has been tested successfully, you should change the password to prevent unauthorized access to your ROUTER! To do this, go to System Administration/Global Settings/Passwords in the menu.
Enter a new system administrator password and confirm it. Click OK.
Save your settings with the Save configuration button.
Configuring the fax line for the router
First enter the IP address of the router in the host table of the IBM i. For this purpose select in the CFGTCP menu the item: "10. Work with TCP/IP host table entries".
Exit the directfax subsystem with ENDDIRFAX
if it should be active. Then start the line configuration program with WRKFAXLIN
Create a new line with F6=Create
. Copying lines of other types (e.g. modem) is not recommended!
Enter a line name and the line description. The name should end with a unique number 1..4. This is required by the statistics program under the DSPSNDSTAT command for column assignment
Examples:
TCUB4_1
TCUB4_2
The most important parameters on the 1st page:
Active: J - Allows to disable a line
Connection type: * TCP - Communication via TCP/IP
Modem: *BINTEC - A Bintec router is used
Modem driver: * CAPI - Control is via CAPI
Outside line access: Specify prefix no. for outside line
CSI: Sender fax identifier
The most important parameters of the 2nd page (examples):
Speed: 5 - Maximum fax speed (14400)
Max transmission attempts: 5 - Maximum number of transmission attempts
Redial:5 - Period after which redialing is performed
The main parameters of the 3rd page:
IP Address/Hostname: Enter IP address or hostname of the router
Data Port: *BINTEC (formerly *RCAPI, corresponds to port 2662)
Note: If you enter a host name here, it must have been previously stored under command CFGTCP, menu item 10 (host table).
The parameters of the 4th page:
ISDN controller . . . . . 1
Attention: The ISDN Controller 1 serves the channels (fax lines) 1+2, the Controller 2 serves the channels 3+4. If the parameter is left empty, 1 is assumed.
Furthermore, on the 4th page you can specify the MSN to which the Bintec router should answer. Up to 8 fixed MSN or 4 ranges can be specified.
If no entry is made, the router will answer every incoming call.
Save the configuration with data release and start directfax with STRDIRFAX. Then test the fax transmission and if desired the fax reception.
Hint:
The main license of directfax includes support for 1 active fax line. If additional fax lines are to be activated, a license with costs is required for each additional line. If more fax lines are activated than licenses are available, the associated send programs will start, but will terminate after checking the additional license. For test purposes, Toolmaker can issue a time-limited license upon request.
