Download the current Windows Client Software

Please load the current Windows client according to the specification in section Software Downloads and extract the file to any directory.

first installation

Start the installation with a right mouse click on the file SETUP.EXE and selecting "Run as administrator".

InstallShield guides you through the installation:

0002 - Select installation language

0108 – Installation of required components

If you need to install some components that are not yet on your system, this dialog will appear. Click „OK".

0003 - Installation procedure

.NET Framework

If you have installed WindowsXP with Excel2003, your PC may already have the .NET Framework 2.0 installed and you can skip this installation step. Otherwise the setup for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 will be installed. Without this framework you cannot use dataxpress!

0111 - .NET Setup

Click „Next".

to start the installation.

0112 – License agreement

Accept the license agreement by checking the appropriate box and clicking “Install". The installation of the .NET Framework takes a few minutes.

0113 – Finished message .NET

To complete the .NET installation, click „Finish". Now you may have to restart your PC. Then run the installation of dataxpress again.

Completion of the installation by clicking on „OK"

0007 - Start installation of dataxpress

Click „Next".

0008 - Selection of the installation directory

We recommend using the default installation directory. Click „Next".

0081- Selection installation setup

Here you can mark optional components for the installation.

If you want to use the dataxpress Upload function to transfer Excel data to IBM i, activate this option. Please note that this is a chargeable option and that further configuration work in the area of access security on the IBM i is necessary to use this option.

After selecting the required options, click „Next".

Click „Next".

Wäduring the installation the dataxpress Administrator is called. This allows the appropriate configuration to be made during installation. These can of course also be entered/corrected later via dataxpress Administrator.

IBM i System name

The name of your IBM i.

username

Enter here the name of your user profile, or another user profile that has the rights to the files to be queried.

Password

The password entered here will be stored encrypted

Type Password

Re-enter password to verify.

Long life support

Click on “Support long passwords“ if your system is set to passwords in upper/lower case.

Service Port Number

The PC communicates with the IBM i via a TCP/IP socket program. The associated server program runs on the IBM i. To establish a connection, the service port number must match the service table entry on the IBM iü.

Default port number “50002” is set here. If you have already assigned this port number elsewhere, or want to set it differently, please note that the port numbers of PC and IBM are identical. The service table entries on the IBM i can be accessed via the OS/400 commands „CFGTCP", selection 21 „Configure related tables" and selection 1 „Work with service table entries".

0012 - dataxpress Enable query/upload-AddIn

dataxpress Enable Query AddIn

Click „dataxpress Enable Query AddIn" if you want to enable the Query AddIn.

dataxpress Enable upload add-in

Click „dataxpress Activate Upload-AddIn" if you want to activate the Upload-AddIn.

0013 - Completion of the installation

Restart your PC after installation is complete.

Notes

If at the end of the installation routine an error message "Excel not found" appears, you can ignore it here and use the Excel AddIn directly in Excel ü„Extras" – „Templates and AddIns" from the directory „\programs\toolmakerdataxpress" add.

The installation program may create a new subdirectory on your PC and copy various files into this directory.

dataxpress is called by loading the file XQ97.XLA in Microsoft Excel. Although in principle you can also load this file from the network drive, this procedure is not recommended because the settings stored in the XQ.INI file apply to all users. The files XQ97.XLA, XQ97.DLL, XQ.HLP and XQ.INI must be in the same directory.

After you have dataxpress installed, you need to configure the connection to the IBM i. Refer to the chapter „PC configuration – Connection" Supplying $QSTRSC link nach

for further information.

Silent installation

To install in larger environments dataxpress on multiple PCs, you can create an unattended installation by running the installation file setup once.exe with the parameter /r (setup.exe /r). After this installation, you will find the setup.iss file in the Windows directory, which contains all the parameters adjusted or adopted during the installation. You can now copy this file into the installation directory of dataxpress and start the installation batch controlled with setup.exe /s . The installation then takes place without user intervention.

If you then make the administrator settings as described in the next chapter and change the registry entries to
\\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Toolmakerdataxpress (file:////HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE//Toolmaker//DataXPress) as well as \\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Toolmakerdataxpress (file:////HKEY_CURRENT_USER//Toolmaker//DataXPress)
each to a file with extension .reg, you can use the command regedit.exe /s filename.reg run in the same batch file as the silent installation, you won't have much trouble configuring dataxpress either.
On the installation DVD you will find a subdirectory „silentsetup" with a batch file silentsetup.bat as well as examples of .iss and .reg files.

Update

When updating, please uninstall the previous version of the software first using Control Panel → Programs and Features.

The user-specific settings are retained.

Then follow the steps described in the Initial Installation are described.
