Windows Client
  • Microsoft Office must be installed in its 32-bit version
  • Exit Excel before installation (or uninstallation of the previous client if necessary)
  • any existing client must be uninstalled from the Control Panel before installing the new version
  • After downloading into a separate directory, please unpack the ZIP file first and right-click on the setup file in the context menu ">execute as administrator".

First-time installation and upgrade to IBM i

The installation takes place in two steps which can run independently of each other in chronological order. We recommend installing the IBM i first, then installing the PC software.

Note for the first installation on IBM i

With the installation of dataxpress WOPiXX will be installed automatically. WOPiXX enables advanced browser-supported operation of parts of the application. The HTTP server required for this is started automatically.

Füthere are two ways to install on IBM i:

  • Automatic Installation with a PC-EXE File
  • the installation in an iASP of IBM i

Füfor both methods benöfor the PC-EXE file , please use the link in section Software Downloads the software request. You will receive an e-mail with a link to download an .EXE file. This is called e.g. DataXpress 04.02.00 deutsch.exe. (The version number may be different)

Both methods are described in the following:

Automatic installation with a PC-EXE file

Follow the steps on the The Toolmaker PC Installer for IBM i - Software Products are described.

Installation in iASP

Since OS/400 V5R2 there is the possibility to install applications in independent Auxiliary Storage Pool (IASP). If you intend to do this, install the software as described below:

  1. Unpack the installation file dataxpress xx.xx english.EXE (see: Software Downloads ) to any folder on your PC. For this you need a tool, like the freeware 7Zip.
  2. In the folder with the unzipped installation file
    1. Löschen the file install.cmd
    2. Name the file install_iasp.cmd in install.cmd um.
  3. Run the file install.bat by double-clicking it. This will transfer the installation programs to your IBM i System.
  4. Log on as user QSECOFR and enter the following commands:

SETASPGRP ASPGRP(your iASP)

RSTOBJ OBJ(QINST* GETASPDEV*) SAVLIB(DATAXPRINS) DEV(*SAVF) SAVF(QGPL/TMSSAVF1) RSTLIB(QTEMP)

QTEMP/QINSTAPP

This will install dataexpress to the iASP you assigned with the SETASPGRP command.

After installation, enter the name of the IASP you are using in the DXPDTAARA data area instead of 210-219 by entering the following command:

CHGDTAARA DTAARA(DATAXPRESS/DXPDTAARA (210 10)) VALUE('IASP33')

In this example "33" is the number of the used ASP.

When installing dataxpress into an iASP, another library DATAXPRSYS will be installed into the ASP system in addition to the library DATAXPRESS in the iASP. This contains the objects that do not run in the iASP. If you have an entry in the system or user library list, make sure that this library is accessible.

Installation of the Toolmaker online help system

Toolmaker ships dataxpress with an online help that provides field-related information about the displayed screen. This often means that the search in the PDF or printed manual is not necessary, since the same information is contained in the online help. The online help is installed with the installation of dataxpress.

Further information can be found on the page

Update to IBM i

The update is identical for both methods with the first installation. However, please note the following points:

  • Important is, that during the update nobody works with dataxpress and the job TCPDXPSERV is terminated was.
  • The user-specific programs (exit programs for remote calls) are only copied automatically from the library DATAXPROLD to the library DATAXPRESS if their name begins with USR. If you have used user-specific programs with different names, you must manually copy them from the DATAXPROLD library to the DATAXPRESS library after the installation.

licensing information

dataxpress can be used in various expansion stages with more or less functionality. The functionality is realized by license models. By entering the corresponding license, the function is activated.

After initial installation, dataxpress can be tested for a maximum of 30 days without licensing. Further information can be found on the page license file.

The license file and the backup

The IFS directory /Toolmaker/dataxpress400 also contains important dataxpress data depending on your configuration and usage habits. Please bear this in mind when backing up your daily data.

Please note that files in DIRMAIL and IFS are temporarily locked during your backup. This can lead to errors in the execution of programs. It is therefore recommended to stop the activities of dataxpress before the backup and start them again afterwards (ENDEMLMON, STREMLMON).

View active licenses and options

Which licenses and options are active on your system will be displayed with these commands:

Uninstall

The deinstallation of dataxpress is done in two independent steps like the installation, the deinstallation of the IBM i software and the deinstallation of the Windows client.

Uninstall IBM i - Software

If you do not want to use dataxpress any longer on your system, you must first set all activities with dataxpress.

If you have entered the library name DATAXPRESS in job descriptions (JOBD) or system values (e.g. QUSRLIBL), remove it there.

Then log off and log on as QSECOFR again. Type the following command:

RMVDXP CONFIRM(*YES)

The installation files, the configuration objects and the DATAXPRESS library are deleted from your system with this.

Uninstalling the dataxpress Windows client

  1. Exit all running instances of Excel
  2. Uninstall the software via the dialog Control Panel --> Programs and Features

license code protection for high availability, mirroring, backup

The certificate file (e.g. License_DIRMAIL_05_65481XX.txt) becomes IFS directory  /Toolmaker your IBM i is saved. Since the file name contains the serial number of the associated system, no special measures are required for mirroring. The license files of the production and backup machine can be placed in the same directory /Toolmaker.
