directmail is a product from TOOLMAKER's range of new e-business solutions. With directmail you get the ability to send and receive e-mails from any IBM i screen - terminal or PC.
Objectives and benefits
The special features of directmail that make it stand out from other products are:
- Excellent for mapping internal and external communication functions.
- Comfortable to use for PC users with emulation to IBM i, as well as for terminal users in particular
- Mail inbox wizard with many functions for automating processes on the IBM i
- Email API for integrating directmail into your IBM i applications
- Spool option for sending IBM i spool files in original or various PC file formats
- Central administration and maintenance
For automated sending of spool files you can alternatively use the product directspool (formerly known as "AutoMail") is available.
Terms of use
The directmail software may only be used on the machine listed on the order form. A change of model requires a new password and possibly license fees. Please ask for a written offer beforehand, if necessary. The license of directmail is linked to the number of users. Contact TOOLMAKER if you want more users to use directmail.
Test period
If you did not get the chance to test the directmail software sufficiently during the trial period, please call us. We can extend the test period.

The IBM i screens shown in this manual do not always correspond to the actual layout, especially regarding the color settings.
Function keys
The function keys used in the programs are based on the SAA standard. To avoid constant repetition, the most common function keys are described below:
F1 - Help key Displays the online user help for the current mask
F3 - Exit program Exits the current program and displays the menu again.
F4 - Selection/operator guidance Displays the possible entries in this field.
F5 - Refresh Updates the display with the latest data
F6 - Create New Creates new objects in the current window
F12 - Back Jumps back one step in the program.
F17 - Start Displays the first entry in the table.
F18 - End Displays the last entry of the table.
F21 - Command line Displays a command line for entering IBM i commands (if authorized)
F23 - More entries If there are more options available in the selection line than are displayed on the screen, press F23 to display the additional options.
F24 - More keys If more function keys are available in the function key line than are displayed, you can use F24 to display the additional function key assignments.
Restrictions
When sending e-mails via the provider T-Online, problems may occur in certain constellations, since T-Online only supports mail forwarding (SMTP relay) to a limited extent. If necessary, a relay server must be used.
When using SSL (encryption of communication to the mail server), port 465 is not supported. Alternatively, port 587 can be used.
Quick start
The manual for directmail has become quite extensive due to the wide range of functions. Do not let this confuse you. Once the product is installed and configured, many operations are intuitive.
